Minutes of Gem Lake City Council meeting, March 18, 2014 <br />Mayor Uzpen called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM <br />Present: Mayor Uzpen, Council members Lindner, Artig-Swomley, Kuny, and Bosak. Also present were <br />County Commissioner Blake Huffman, Danielle Vineski, and Elijah Muedeking from White Bear Lake Area <br />High School. <br />March agenda <br />Mayor Uzpen asked for additions to the March agenda. Motion by Artig-Swomley and seconded by <br />Bosak the agenda was approved 5-0. <br />February City Council minutes <br />Upon motion by Artig-Swomley and seconded by Bosak the February minutes were approved, with no <br />corrections, 5-0. <br />Committee reports — none. There was a brief discussion to communicate to the Planning Commission <br />the need for them to resume regular meetings. <br />Old business <br />City newsletter for March -April, 2014. Potential topics were discussed by the council including the <br />moratorium extension, Marc Putman's planning, rain garden workshops offered through the Vadnais <br />Lake Area Water Management Organization (VLAWMO), Commissioner Huffman's presentation, and <br />general ordinance information. <br />New business <br />Commissioner Huffman updated the city council on five primary areas that the county is presently <br />working on: public safety, helping those in need, private sector growth, spending controls, and <br />infrastructure. He highlighted several public works road improvement projects slated for this year, and <br />provided a county pothole reporting hotline. He also talked about projects involving the county and <br />other agencies relating to Interstate 694 improvements and bridge work along Minnesota trunk highway <br />36 set to begin in 2015.
