The $500
award for each student was voted on by the Gem
Lake City Council at its April 16th meeting.

This 4th annual award is intended to pay for costs
of post secondary education for Gem Lake
graduates. It is funded by charitable gambling
receipts.

Holly Lorenz will graduate this Spring from
P.E.A.S.E. Academy and is looking forward to
attending the University of Minnesota--Morris. She
plans to pursue a degree in either World History
or Psychology.

She has been involved in a variety of activities
during her high school years, including several
years as a volunteer for Feed My Starving
Children. Holly was an A and B Honor Roll
Student for three years and also achieved Student
of the Month during one year.

(continued on page 2)

Gem Lake Scholarships Awarded
th
New Property Tax Statements to Arrive Soon
Revised property tax statements will be
mailed to Gem Lake residents shortly by
Ramsey County officials.

The county mailed original 2013 property tax
statements around mid-March, but the tax
portion for the City of Gem Lake proved to be
incorrect in many cases. It appears that the
county used the preliminary property tax levy
figures, which were higher than the final
property tax figures.

Problems with the tax software have been
encountered and have slightly delayed the
mailing of revisions, according to Dick
Sivanich of Ramsey County.
