Resolution No. 2025-041
A RESOLUTION ADOPTING A POLICY FOR THE MINNESOTA FAMILY MEDICAL
LEAVE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO ADD THE LANGUAGE TO THE
EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK
WHEREAS, during the 2025 Legislative Session, the Minnesota Legislature approved the
Minnesota Family Medical Leave Act (M.S.§268B); and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Family Medical Leave is a State-Administered paid family and
medical leave insurance program beginning January 1, 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Family Medical Leave program is funded in large part by the
employer premium and in some cases employee contributions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gem Lake has developed a policy regarding the Minnesota Family
Medical Leave program for the employee handbook; and
WHEREAS, the City of Gem Lake will contribute 50% of premium for the Minnesota Family
Medical Leave Act.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City of Gem Lake, Minnesota, City Council
adopts a policy for the Minnesota Family Medical Leave and Authorizes the City Clerk to
Amend the Employee Handbook with the Language.
The motion for adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly introduced by Councilmember
Lindner and supported by Councilmember Johnson, and upon vote being taken thereon, the
resolution passed with a vote of 4 in favor and 0 against.
