The Mayor called the meeting to order at 8:08 pm .
THE CLEITi CALLED THE ROLL -
PRE:.PTTT - Htffmar_ , Arcand, Bigelow, Ward, Knutson.
In the absence of the Village Cleric, Pdr. John E. P. Morgan,
Victor Knutson acted in his capacity, Knutson being the Treasurer of the
Villge. Also present: Mts. lard, Joe McG'_mnds, Stanley Ross, Dean
Yoberick, Robert Cartier and Mr. Harry Lovering.
Mr. Lovering was present in response to aletter from Fr. J. Bemis,
regarding tine lighting for the Chrysler building and used car lot. fie stated
that it v,— l have 25 candles of lumens at 3N feet generally but that there may be
hot spots directly under the light source which may raise this to 30 candles.
The lighta are adjustable and cam be beamed as desired. Mr. Lovering requested
that this variance from tl7.e Village ordinance be waived. A letter from McDonald
of the Cerny Engineering Co. :-pas read by the acting clerk as well as other
letters lertairing to the subject. The mayor said he would arrange a meeting
at the ea.rl_sst possible time with Mr. Bemis and Mr. Lovering to decide on this
matter. Robert Cartier, Village Electrica: InspectAr said the d_.ffererce
between 25 and 30 candles T.ould not be readily noticeable. Mr. Loverin.g departed
after th4 discussion was completes.

Mr. Cartier stated t2iat Pair. Salverdo is his deputy electrical inspector.
Mr. Stan Rcss reported that the course on Government will begin Sept 18th, in
Vednais Heights. T1-.ey need 20 people and now have 15. Flyers will be sent out.
Mr. Koverni.ck reported that the petit' -on for the 30 mile speed limit ',"as
still beintg worked on.
1 BUSINESS
The Acting Clerk read a letter to the Council from Mr. Richard Hanson.
The Council made no comment. The Acting Clerk reported that a request from the
Ramsey County Auditor concerning the village budget for Lal,•� Enforcement for the
Calendar year 1967 was answered by sending him the amount spent amounting to
k1581.58. The Acting Clerk read a fetter from the P,c ._ County Commissioners
Cffice requesting the Cour:cil not to approve any plans for any street, roadway
or drivetray entering on to a County road, without requiring the devel-per or
contra -tor responsible, to submit such plans to the Ramsey County Highway Engineer
Mr. Deane Anklan, for approval. Vembership for the League of Mu,icipalities
was postponed until the return of the Village Clerk. The Acting; Cleric reported
a fire during the month at Yrs. H.C. Freema.ns residence cost the village
a two hour fire charge, 0300.00

ELECTIONS
Polls for Sept 10th Primary to be open 9:00 to 8:00 pm.
Placards announcing election on 10 sSept posted one in Hoffman Hall one in
Arcands Grocery. OPTIONAL ELECTION for Gem Lake Village scheduled for Nov. 5th 1968.
14rs. John Daniels, Mrs. Helen Schifsky and Victor Knutson attended the election
briefing held at the Sherrif Sub -Station on Aug.21, 7:30 pm.
ADMINISTRATION GD11 LAKE VILLAGE
The Treasurer visited the Maplewood Village Hall and consulted with the personnel
employed for administration of Maplewood procedures in permits for various
xxt work. He received copies of permits issued which are recommended for proper
accounting of monies received and for record of permits issued. It was moved by
Ward and seconded by Arcand that the Gem Lake Treasurer have appropriate forms
printed for our use. This being held in abeyance until the return of the Village
Clerk for further suggestions.
