Roseville Human Rights
Commission
Meeting
of
September 13, 2011
The Program Planning Committee of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) has met
twice since the last HRC meeting, on planning future community programs and on
the two other major projects now being organized, the Civic Engagement project
and the Project 515 program in October. Wayne Groff, a newly appointed
commissioner, met with the Committee on organizing future community
diaglogues, forums, and discussions, as outlined in the last Program Planning
Committee Report (August 2011).
The Committee has asked the Chair to include on this meeting's agenda an
opportunity for other commissioners to volunteer for the committee. The
Committee's workload has increased significantly, since each of the three major
programs now being organized (Civic Engagement, Project 515, and continuation
of community dialogues) require multiple meetings and time consuming
coordination and communication. The Committee has been relying on itself in this
work (see paragraph below under Civic Engagement Project Update), but may soon
be required to ask more time for the HRC staff liaison Carolyn Curti.
At the Commission meeting next week each of the committee members will give
verbal reports on these three major programs mentioned above.
Civic Engagement Project Update
The Neighborhood and Community Engagement Task Force and its committees
have met continuously this summer. Much of its effort these past few weeks has
been on organizing and publicizing the September 14 Community Forum:
Neighbor -to- Neighbor. (See attached flyer for this event, as well as a Task Force
planning document outlining the topics to be addressed at the Forum).
Task Force Coordinator Haden Bowie has had to resign her position because of the
need to move back to her parents' South Dakota home to share in the care of her
invalid mother.
City staff also provided the Committee with an opportunity to advertise the
Community Forum in its most recent issue of City News, the publication mailed to
almost every household in the City. This most recent edition arrived in mail boxes
this past week, an ideal time to get the word out to Roseville residents.
Gary Grefenberg has also met with City Manager Bill Malinen regarding the
feasibility of providing the Task Force with a web page, as has been provided to
other city efforts such as the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon campaign and the Parks
Department Master Landscape Plan community effort.
Program Planning Committee Report for 09 -13 -2011 HRC Meeting
