Runoff from the majority of the Lake Owasso watershed is routed through
stormwater ponds and /or natural wetlands prior to discharge into the Lake.
Therefore, the watershed runoff was identified being less important than other
sources of phosphorous to the Lake.
Lake water quality can benefit from watershed wide implementation of infiltration
BMPS.
Internal loading and the export of phosphorous occurs at the Central Park's east
and west wetland complexes (5 to 9% of the external phosphorous loading comes
from these two sites. Further study is needed to determine why and how to
address this issue.
Recommendations:
• Further study and monitoring the water quality of the Shallow areas of the Lake to
better understand the water quality and mixing dynamics as the result of wind and
motorboat activity, etc.
• Incorporate infiltration BMPS throughout the watershed.
• Manage Curlyleaf pondweed through herbicide application.
• Further study the Central Park west and east wetlands, including core samples, to
determine why the export phosphorous.
• Study Carp and their impact on the Lake's water quality.
• Implement "non - structural BMPS" throughout the watershed.
Fall street sweeping
Discourage waterfowl feeding
Encourage vegetated shoreline buffers and restoration
Continue to educate the public about yards and household BMPS
Evaluate Road salting practices
