REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 10/25/99 <br />ITEM NO: C-1 <br />nt Approval: Manager Approved: Agenda Section: <br />Consent <br />Item Description: Resolution Proclaiming October 25-29, 1999 as Minnesota <br />Manufacturers Week in the City of Roseville <br />1.0 Requested Action <br />Proclaim October 25-29, 1999 as Minnesota Manufacturers Week in the City of <br />Roseville. The proclamation is in honor and appreciation of an estimated 70 <br />manufacturing companies in Roseville. <br />2.0 Background <br />2.1 This is the 6th year that the State of Minnesota has been celebrating the <br />importance of the manufacturing industry in Minnesota. Each community is <br />encouraged to recognize their manufacturing companies as part of the state <br />manufacturer week celebration. <br />3.0 Manufacturing Industry in the State and Roseville <br />3.1 The State of Minnesota cites seven reasons why manufacturing is worth <br />recognizing. <br />I Manufacturing companies employ nearly one out of every five non -farm <br />workers in Minnesota nearly 429,000 people. <br />2. Manufacturing employment is expected to reach 439,000 by the year <br />2005. <br />3. Manufacturing employees in Minnesota earned an average of $37,250 in <br />19967 percent more than the average Minnesota private sector <br />employee earned that same gear. <br />4. Manufacturing has the largest total payroll of any business sector in <br />Minnesota. <br />b.
