REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> DATE:2/14/00 <br /> ITEM NO.: C-2 <br /> Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br /> \1 Consent <br /> Item Description: Approve Change Order No. 1, 1999 Parks Improvement Project <br /> Background: As part of 1999 Parks Improvement Project, Owasso Hills Park, Pioneer Park <br /> and Central park all had construction work done in them. Their locations are shown on the <br /> attached map. Current policy states that staff may approve Change Orders for up to 5% of the <br /> original contract amount. This change order is for 8% of the original contract amount. Since <br /> the total of this Change Orders exceeds 5% of the original contract of $729,380.75, the City <br /> Council is required by policy to approve Change Order No. 1. <br /> An overview of the work involved with this Change Order is as follows: <br /> 1. Owasso Hills Park: <br /> 6 Remove basement and debris from Owasso Hills Park. During grading the <br /> contractor encountered a buried house foundation at the park site. This debris <br /> had to be dug up and hauled away. It was also necessary to regrade the park to <br /> make drainage work. The additional cost is $15066.50. <br /> 2 Central Park Ballfields (Lexington and County Road C) <br /> • Remove debris and place backfill at Central Park baflfields (Lexington and <br /> County Road C). During construction of the storm sewer at this site, the <br /> contractor encountered concrete and other road construction debris buried at <br /> the site. This debris had to be dug up and hauled away. It was also necessary <br /> to regrade the park to make drainage work. The additional cost is $25,080.50. <br /> • During construction, the City determined that additional storm sewer should <br /> be installed in the parking lot to eliminate surface drainage to the b al l fi el d s. <br /> The additional cost is $10,439.00. <br /> • To eliminate a steep slope on the south side of the ballfields, a wood retaining <br /> wall was installed. The additional cost is $7,268.00. <br /> 3 Central Park Pathways (Victoria Street): <br /> The infield at the northeastern Victoria ba11 fi el d was regraded to improve <br /> drainage along reconstructed pathway. This additional cost was $2,911.00 <br /> Financial implications: The cost for Change Order No. 1 is $60,765.00, which is approximately <br /> 8% over the original contract amount. The costs for this Change Orders will be financed by the <br /> City's Park Improvement Program and Recreation Facilities fund. <br /> RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> Motion approving Change Order No. 1 for 1999 Parks Improvement Project. <br /> Prepared by: Debra Bloom <br />
