REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> DATE: 2/14/00 <br /> ITEM NO.: F_1 <br /> Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br /> Reports <br /> Item Description: Award of bid for 2000 Pond/ Storm Sewer Improvements Project <br /> Background: The City's overall storm water system contains 96 Lakes, Ponds and Wetlands. The <br /> Public Works staff has completed an inventory of the storm water basins throughout the City. As a part <br /> of this inventory the condition of each basin was rated. We have been budgeting money annually for <br /> storm sewer maintenance, including sediment removal in ponds. <br /> Bids were solicited during the month of February. The bids for 2000 Pond/ Storm Sewer Improvements <br /> Project were opened on Wednesday, February 9,2000. This project includes the following basins, see <br /> attached map for locations: <br /> ST-00-12 2000 Pond/ Storm Sewer Improvements: <br /> Willow Pond Clean- up <br /> Zimmerman Lake Clean- up <br /> Policy objectives: Based on past practice, the City Council has awarded the contract to the lowest <br /> responsible bidder. In the case of the 2000 Pond/ Storm Sewer Improvements Project, the lowest bidder <br /> is Arnt Construction Company of Hugo, Minnesota. <br /> Financial implications: We received 7 bids for this improvement. The engineer's estimate for the 2000 <br /> Pond./ Storm Sewer Improvements Project was $147,345.04. The low bid submitted by Arnt <br /> Construction Company is $109,494.00 or 25% lower thon the engineer's estimate.
