N!!i-Request for Council Action <br />Date: 10/30/W <br />Item Number: M-3 <br />Department Approval Manager Approval Agenda Section <br />Other Business <br />Item Description: <br />MOE, local 49 Tentative Contract Agreement <br />Background <br />Contract negotiations with International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 49 have resulted in an <br />offer for a one year contract consisting of the following: <br />1.2 % increase in hourly rates on January 1, 2001 and an additional 2% increase on May 1, 2001. <br />2.The City will pay l/2 of the increase in cost of family health insurance coverage <br />3.Increase in Standby Utility pay to $HO/week. <br />4.Increase in Park Maintenance Pager compensation to $20/day. <br />5.Out of Class pay will be paid for operation of snowplows with wing during snow plowing events. <br />I Operation of a snow plow/wing during sanding operations or other non-plowing activities will not be <br />considered Out of Class. <br />6.2 % increase in the uniform allowance on January 1, 2001. An additional increase of 2 % on May 1, <br />2000. <br />7.The new contract will be for a period of 1 year. <br />Alternatives <br />The Council may choose to approve or reject the offer. If approved, the City Manager is authorized to sign <br />the contract for 2001. <br />Policv Objectives <br />The total cost of the IUOE, Local 49 contract proposal is projected to be consistent with other union and non- <br />union groups. The union packages before the Council this year are in the aggregate range of 5.21% . <br />Financial <br />There are twenty-seven employees in the IUOE, Local 49 bargaining unit. The 2001 proposal totals <br />$1,322,563.45. The total dollar increase of the package is $71,122.42. This is a 5.7% increase. <br />The total cost of the 2001 IUOE, Local 49 contract is consistent with other bargaining and non-union groups. <br />The increase is covered in the contingency account.
