Proclamation <br /> May 12, 2000 <br /> Fibromyalgia Awareness Day <br /> in Roseville <br /> Whereas: an estimated 6,000,000 people in the United States, 34% of the people in the City of Roseville, and <br /> millions of people world wide have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (FM), a disease for which <br /> there is no cure and no known cause; and <br /> Whereas: Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness, increasing at epidemic rates, which causes fatigue and debilitating <br /> pain of a magnitude worse that Rheumatoid Arthritis in women, men and children of al I races and all <br /> ages; and <br /> Whe►ms: patients of this illness have to learn to live with widespread pain in muscles,joints and ligaments, <br /> extreme fatigue, insomnia, stiffness and weakness, migraine headaches, restless legs, numbness <br /> and tingling, impairment of memory and concentration; and <br /> Whereas: it is necessary that we recognize and accept the medical research, which has proven biochemical <br /> abnormalities in people with Fibromyalgia; and <br /> Whereas: Juvenile Fibromyalgia presents unique challenges for and causes our children to suffer not only with <br /> the symptoms of this illness, but also with the ridicule; and <br /> Whereas: people with Fibromyalgia face discrimination from employers, friends and even family, and must <br /> deal with the ongoing stress of living with an unpredictable disease with uncertain futures; and <br /> Whereas: if employers would support their employees with FM, by making changes to the work environment <br /> so that persons with FM can continue to function at work and not have to file for disability; and <br /> Whereas: the National Fibromyalgia Awareness Campaign and Fibromyalgia Support Groups around our <br /> country, have joined together to promote FM awareness, support for people with FM and advocate <br /> the need for improved education and research to insure quicker diagnosis and improved treatment; <br /> and <br /> Whereas: in-depth understanding of this illness will help insure hope for a better future for people with <br /> Fibmmyalgia; <br /> Now,Therefore Belt Resolved,that the Cii Council of the City of Roseville does hereby recognize the needs of <br /> these chronically ill people and does hereby proclaim May 12,2000 to be Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in the City of <br /> Roseville and urge all of our citizens to support those seeking a cure and to assist those individuals and families who <br /> deal with this devastating disease on a daily basis. <br /> In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Roseville to be affixed this 8th <br /> day of May, 2000. <br /> John Kysytyczyn,Mayor <br /> SEAL <br />
