Decently, MN/DOT received a federal transportation <br /> grant to upgrade the railroad flashing light signals and circuitry at a number of at-grade rail <br /> crossings including the Minnesota Commercial Railway Company crossing at Terminal Road in <br /> Roseville. A location map is attached. <br /> MT/DOT is requesting the City enter into an agreement with MN/DOT and the Minnesota <br /> Commercial Railway Company to upgrade the safety devices at this crossing. The project cost of <br /> $611050 is to be funded with an 80%federal grant and 0% local match. The City of Roseville is <br /> responsible for the 20%, $12,2 10, local match. The Minnesota Commercial Railway Company <br /> will install the modified signal equipment and will he responsible for future operations and <br /> maintenance. <br /> Throughout the State, roadway agencies are responsible for the installation of rail crossing <br /> signals. In the case of Terminal load, Roseville is the responsible roadway agency. The proposed <br /> upgrades will significantly improve the operations of the a sting system and will improve safety. <br /> Pry Ject Financing: The City's share of this project, $12,210 is not part of the approved 1 999 <br /> Budget. If this agreement is approved, the City's share would be funded through Ro seville's <br /> Municipal State Aid account. As such, the cost of this improvement would have no direct impact <br /> on the approved 1999 budget. <br /> RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Approval of a resolution entering into an Agreement with the Minnesota Commercial Railway <br /> Company and MN/DOT for the installation and maintenance of Railroad Crossing Signals on <br /> Terminal load and authorizing the Mayor and Manager to sign the Agreement on behalf of the <br /> city. <br /> Prepared by.- Karl F Keel <br />
