REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> DATE: 1 1/13/01 <br /> ITEM NO: c-2 <br /> Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br /> Consent <br /> wC. <br /> V <br /> Item Description: Approval of Applications for Ramsey County Soccer Partners Program <br /> Grant <br /> 6ACKGROI 1ND <br /> In 1999, Ramsey County initiated a grant program to increase the opportunity for increased <br /> soccer play. The program was formulated based on an inventory of available soccer fields <br /> in Ramsey County. The analysis demonstrated a shortage of soccer venues. A similar <br /> inventory during the process of updating the Roseville Parks and Recreation System Plan <br /> also evidenced the shortage of fields in Roseville based on current and projected demand. <br /> This is being intensified with the loss of the two fields at the former Roseville Activity <br /> Center site. <br /> The request is for approval to apply for a Ramsey County Soccer Partners Program <br /> Grant. The grant request for Rosebrook Park is for $60,453. The request is for <br /> assistance in developing lighting of the two proposed soccer fields. The City council <br /> approved acceptance of a previous Ramsey County Soccer Partners Grant to construct <br /> the two fields at Rosebrook in January of 2001. In order to expand play but not take up <br /> any additional land, the lighting of these two fields accomplishes that goal. These fields are <br /> scheduled to be developed in 2002. These fields would be constructed as part of the 2002 <br /> PIP. Please see the attached application. If the request for application is granted and the <br /> grant is approved by Ramsey County, the City Council will have final approval at a future <br /> meeting. <br /> POLICY OBJECTIVE <br /> The attached proposals are consistent with the policy of leveraging other public and private <br /> resources to obtain funding to offset the costs of development. It is also consistent with the <br /> Roseville Parks and Recreation System Plan. <br /> 1 <br />
