Program Planning Roseville Human Rights
Committee Report Commission
Meeting
Report prepared on V V Of
October 3, 2011 a''~---L' October 13, 2011
Overview: The Program Planning Committee of the Human Rights Commission
(HRC) has been busy providing oversight to the Civic Engagement Project and
planning the Project 515 program scheduled for October 4th. The Committee met
once during this period, and decided to proceed with cosponsoring a new program,
Not in My Town, in collaboration with the Roseville Police Department Community
Affairs Division.
Commissioner Kris Doneen has joined the Committee, and already is providing
energy and initiative to some of its projects, especially the Project 515 program
and the Commission's Youth Initiative.
At the Commission meeting next week Committee members will give verbal
reports on the three major programs mentioned above, plus recommend
Commission sponsorship and organizational assistance with the Roseville Police
Department on the Not in My Town program.
Civic Engagement Project Update
The Neighborhood and Community Engagement Task Force held its Community
Forum Neighbor to Neighbor on September 14t" at the Roseville Skating Center.
From my perspective the program was well-received but the attendance was
disappointing. Approximately two dozen residents attended, exclusive of HRC
Commissioners and Task Force members.
This low attendance raises the question of how effective our standard means of
reaching the public are, as well as whether the issue of civic engagement is
relevant in the lives of Roseville residents. The Task Force will assess the latter
issue, but the HRC Outreach Committee may want to explore the first question.
All HRC Commissioners attended and participated in the small group discussions
portion of the program. The Committee appreciates the interest shown by this
participation and invites their feedback at the next Commission meeting.
Project 515 Program Update
By the time the Commission meets on October 11 t" the Project 515 program will
have been held. Therefore we would like an opportunity to receive feedback from
the Commission as to the program's effectiveness and relevance to the
Commission's goals and objectives, as well as to whether the Committee should
initiate any follow-up activities on the issue of civil rights for Gay and Lesbian
people.
Program Planning Committee Report for 10-11-2011 HRC Meeting 1
