REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION 7/13/98 Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda section: r r x� Ordinances and Resolutions Item Description: Cable Television ordinance Renewal. BACKGROUND The issue of the Cable franchise renewal has been before the City Council since the beginning of the year. The North Suburban cable Commission has been the City's agent on this issue. The North Suburban Cable commission has conducted both a marketing and engineering analysis of the system and followed the Federal Communications Commission. guidelines for franchise renewal. The North Suburban Cable Commission (as a Joint Pourers agency) has recommended to each of the member cities renewal of the franchise ordinance, which is attached for Council review. Numerous questions were ralsed at the City Council work session of April 20, which have been conveyed to the cable commission and Media One for response. Meetings have occurred with both the cable Commission and MediaOne. The response is in part in the June 15 memo from Tom Creighton and the letter of,July 2 from Mediaone. The ordinance for franchise renewal is offered in first reading consistent with the city's practice of allowing significant opportunity for public input. Final adoption would be schedu-led for the duly 27 City Council meeting.
