Award of Bid for Electric Ice Re-surfacer for Roseville Skating Center*
BACKGROUND
The current ice re-surfacer, (Zamboni), at the Roseville Arena was purchased in 1 988. It
is due for replacement in 2 years. Because of the Skating center Expansion project, there
is a need to replace the current model before the addition is totally enclosed because of
the covering of the outside zambon i door. The P A requires that fresh air be introduced
in the building if you are using propane resurfacing or ice-shaving units, which are the
machines currently used. It is anticipated that within a fear years all indoor arenas will be
required to use electric re-surfacers.
Included in the bid was the option for a board brush cleaner which is recommended.
The plan is to place the current-aren-a re-surfacer as the back up at the OVAL and trade
or sell the older current backup. The following bids were received.
Vendor Base Biel. Option Trade-in T=
Frank J. Zamboni & co., Inc. 76P000 $21900 97000 ,
Becker Arena Products 71,265* 1695 51000 $68,960
*The Becker Arena Products submittal does not comply with the required specifications.
The specified model requires batten operation. The model submitted by Becker has a
cord attachment, which.must be connected, to a power source for the machine to operate.
Staff is concerned about having to deal with the large power cord during operation and
the fact that the machine could only be used indoors and could not be a backup or cycle
to-the-OVAL.-in the f utu r -because of the cord design.
POLICY OBJECTIVE
The o osed purchase of new equipment is as prescribed ® City policy.
p p
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
T -budoeted'amount for the proposed equipment is $87,000.
