A-lb: PUBLIC FOCUS GROUP MEETING SUMMARIES: <br /> MEETING #I : <br /> February 8, 2001: The following is a summary of the opportunities, issues and concerns <br /> expressed by a selected panel of five residents, a city council member and a <br /> representative of Kraus-Anderson, a representative from JLT Corp, the City of Roseville <br /> Community Development Staff and HGA who met on February 8,2001 at the invite of <br /> City staff. <br /> 0 m o rtu nitie s.: 2/8/01 <br /> ■ Look at the neighborhood as a whole <br /> ■ Plan for a long-term redevelopment of the area <br /> Appeal of neighborhood to families - the existing housing stock is of a value and size <br /> to attract first time homebuyers. <br /> ■ Incorporation of green spaces <br /> Form well-connected areas - neighboring churches, existing residential and <br /> commercial areas could be blended with open space areas <br /> Community oriented activities on project site: park, recreation center, community <br /> center, senior center <br /> ■ Maintain and improve existing path. Soccer field and play area for children in <br /> neighborhood. <br /> ■ Provide public intergenerational areas <br /> Deal with Slough' <br /> The Hamline Shopping Center <br /> Deal with the value (economic and non-economic) <br /> Option to demolish existing center <br /> Optimize function as a neighborhood center <br /> . Mixed-use center <br /> ■ Gateway to neighborhood <br /> . Gateway/walkway to project site <br /> ■ Life-cycle housing <br /> . Size of homes good for young families and retirement <br /> ■ Site can become part of the City tax base. <br /> Issues/Concerns: 2/8/01 <br /> The issues and concerns raised by the kick-off meeting are listed below: <br /> • Loss of open space/'dark" - the unmaintained park is currently being used all year <br /> round by the neighborhood. <br /> • Appeal of neighborhood to families the existing housing stock in the area is not <br /> appealing to a growing family. <br /> Appendix A- 1 8 of28 <br />
