REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
4/27 /98
ITEM NO E-1
0 1P
Depa ent Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda section:
71--1-1 q-14- Organizational Business
Item Description: Elimination of One-time Vacation Credit.
BACKGROUND
in December of 1985, the City Council adopted a resolution that provides a one-time
credit of twenty personal leave days after three years of service for individuals in the
Management Plan. We are proposing that this provision be eliminated for new hires.
With this change, the vacation policy would be consistent for both compensation plans.
When warranted, vacation adjustments could still be included for selected positions as a
part of the job offer.
ALTERNATIVES
Continue the current policy.
POLICY OBJECTIVES
The City has continuously worked towards a bereft package that is equitable across all
employee groups. The actual dollar amount
varies depending on the number of employees receiving the vacation credit, and
p
whether or not employees use vacation time or are cashed out at the end of their
tenure.
STAFF-RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends the elimination of this provision.
COUNCIL ACTION REQ EsTED
Motion eliminating the ore-time vacation credit of 20 days after 3 years of service for
new hires in the Exempt plan,
