Manager Reviewed,., Agenda Section. <br /> (:::::*A Ordinances and Resolutions <br /> Item Description-., Ordinance to extend the Cable Television Franchise term to July 20, <br /> 1998. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The City's Franchise Ordinance for Cable Television has been the subject of ongoing <br /> negotiation. The North Suburban Cable Commission and the City have been involved in <br /> the renegotiation process. Due to delays as a result of the complexity of the franchise <br /> negotiation process, changes in cable company ownership, and changing Federal <br /> regulations, franchise extensions have been required. <br /> The current franchiser which expires on April 20, 1998, was the subject of an extension by <br /> the City council. The attached ordinance amendment extends the franchise for an <br /> additional 90 days, with a new expiration date of July 20, 1998. <br /> POLICY OBJECTIVE <br /> The terms of the original and amended franchise for cable services will remain in full force <br /> and effect during the term of the franchise extension. <br /> EINAN9!�IA IMPLICATIONS <br /> Likewise, all financial issues relating to the franchise will remain in full effect during the <br /> course of this extension. <br /> COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br /> Motion adopting ordinance approving the cable franchise extension to July 20, 1998, with <br /> the effective date of the ordinance being upon passage and official publication. <br />
