u
Rosevi*lle Skati'ng
John Rose
Aggressive Skate Park - 1997
Cqmpetition, Growths and Opportunity..Or the OVAL Agaress i ve Skate Park
QOLUPtltion
The OVAL has a limited number of competitors 'in the Twirl Cities Metro Area - or the state for
that matter. The Yd fair- in Minneapolis and the City of fiinnetonka's Aggressive Skatepark have
been the only true competition. Both parks ate indoors and offer limited equipment.
The Ord Lair in Minneapolis is on 12'4 and Luke Street in the back of a small warehouse building.
The 3' lair remains a favorite because it was the first indoor park in the 'rwsn Cities. The park
boasts the only"bowl" its the area and has some small launch ramps and rails. Skateboards* In-
lira Skates, and BMX bikes are allowed to ride the equipment - all at one tune. Helmets are the
only required protective gear - all other protective gear is available for a minimal fee.
Growth
For the o v L#s skate park to be successful - it is imperative to add I to 2 pieces of aggressive
equipment each gear. Without the added equipment the pate will become out of dated, mu dan
and possibly si gnificant decl i nes in adrni scions.
It is also difficult for the OVAL to capitalize is also missing sales opportunities without tile
presence of a pro shop. Not only would the pro shop thrive during the fn-lute season - it would
be very lucrative during the Ice season.
The OVAL also needs to expand its base for-the adults or parents who cones to watch their son
or daughter- skate in the park. The OVAL has no shaded areas - except for what's indoors.
way to improve this might be a Viewing area., a coffee shop, an awning or covering outside etc.
.8.4
