REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> DATE: /09/98 <br /> ITEM NO: F_ <br /> Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br /> Reports and Recommendations <br /> Item Description <br /> Acceptance MnReLeaf T Community Planting Street Tree Reforestation <br /> Grant <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In September, the Council authorized The Parks and Recreation Department to submit a proposal <br /> for funding assistance from MnRel eaf Community Planting Program. The City has received <br /> noticed that the proposal to re-plant 50 street trees on properties that have lost boulevard trees in <br /> the last few years due to disease or storm damage has been granted. The amount of the Mate grant <br /> is $5,OW. As part of this grant, the City mmst agree to maintain the trees on a regular scheduled <br /> program for three years, as well as, remain committed to our on-going street tree maintenance <br /> program. <br /> POLICY OBJECTIVE <br /> This proposal is consistent with the City's Street Tree Master Plan. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPLICATION <br /> The City has budgeted $2,500 in the landscaping program of PIP, with an additional $2,500 <br /> coming from the Round-rip Program for this project. In addition, the City will provide $4,000 <br /> of in-ldnd service in the form of planning, coordination, inspection and a three-year maintenance <br /> pgram. <br /> STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br /> Staff recommends the acceptance of the MaReLeaf grant of$5,000 to aid in the reforestation of <br /> stmt trees in areas of the community that have suffered boulevard tree loss, as outlined in the <br /> Street Tree Master Plan. <br />
