REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> DATE: 1/26198 <br /> ITEM NO: F-IL <br /> Department pro l: Manager Reviewed' Agenda Section: <br /> Reports and Recommendations <br /> Item Description: Nanning of Park Land <br /> BACKGRQUND <br /> In October of 1997, the City purchased the Zuettel property for a neighborhood park. Since that <br /> time, the Parks and Recreation Commission has studied the naming of this property as per the City <br /> policy. The Commission used the following process: <br /> 1. Review of City policy for naming of parks. <br /> 2. Solicitation of suggestions from neighborhood. <br /> 3. Research of history of property. <br /> 4. Discussion of options for names. <br /> Following several months of research and discussion, The Parks and Recreation Commission has <br /> recommended the Marne for the new park be moor Park. The Commission stated their reasons <br /> for recommending this name was used on the recognition of the contributions of the early <br /> pioneers to Roseville including farmers such as the Zuettel family. They also felt the rune was <br /> particularly significant in that this is the 50th anniversary of Roseville. <br /> PD ICY <br /> The established. City policy is to refer to the Parks and Recreation Commission for <br /> reconnnendation on the rraming of City parks and recreation land and facilities. The policy further <br /> states that consideration will be based on the following factors: <br /> natural habitat, i.e., vegetation, terrain, animals, etc. <br /> IM geographic location, i.e,,, street names, directions, etc. <br /> appropriate nondescript terminology, Le., acronyms or joining of two words or <br /> names or activities, etc. <br /> 0 only under certain and exceptional circumstances will consideration be given to e <br /> names of individuals, organized groups, associations or businesses. To be <br /> considered the individual or group roust have made a significant and exceptions <br /> contribution to the site involved or to the community as a whole. Such <br /> contributions should be for recreation purposes and may include substantial <br /> financial and/or property donations. <br />
