REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE: 1/26198 ITEM NO: F-IL Department pro l: Manager Reviewed' Agenda Section: Reports and Recommendations Item Description: Nanning of Park Land BACKGRQUND In October of 1997, the City purchased the Zuettel property for a neighborhood park. Since that time, the Parks and Recreation Commission has studied the naming of this property as per the City policy. The Commission used the following process: 1. Review of City policy for naming of parks. 2. Solicitation of suggestions from neighborhood. 3. Research of history of property. 4. Discussion of options for names. Following several months of research and discussion, The Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended the Marne for the new park be moor Park. The Commission stated their reasons for recommending this name was used on the recognition of the contributions of the early pioneers to Roseville including farmers such as the Zuettel family. They also felt the rune was particularly significant in that this is the 50th anniversary of Roseville. PD ICY The established. City policy is to refer to the Parks and Recreation Commission for reconnnendation on the rraming of City parks and recreation land and facilities. The policy further states that consideration will be based on the following factors: natural habitat, i.e., vegetation, terrain, animals, etc. IM geographic location, i.e,,, street names, directions, etc. appropriate nondescript terminology, Le., acronyms or joining of two words or names or activities, etc. 0 only under certain and exceptional circumstances will consideration be given to e names of individuals, organized groups, associations or businesses. To be considered the individual or group roust have made a significant and exceptions contribution to the site involved or to the community as a whole. Such contributions should be for recreation purposes and may include substantial financial and/or property donations.
