REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> DATE.- 1/12198 <br /> ITEM ■. <br /> Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda section: <br /> Organizational Business <br /> Item Description: 1998 Nonunion Employee Compensation. <br /> Backcround <br /> The City has three nonunion employee groups: Clerical/Technical, Supervisory/ <br /> Confidential, and Management/Administrative. The two major items 'in the compensation <br /> package for these groups are wages and insurance. <br /> Recommendation <br /> It is recommended that the salary ranges for the three nonunion groups he increased by <br /> percent for 1998. It is also recommended that the City's flexible benefit program he <br /> increased from $300.00 to 10.00 for individuals electing family coverage, and from <br /> $170.20 to $180.00 for individuals electing single coverage. <br /> Policy jectiye_ <br /> These recommendations are based on internal policy objectives of 1) maintaining <br /> competitive compensation and benefit rates, and ) maintaining internal equity between our <br /> various plans and collective bargaining units. The total cast of the packages are in the <br /> aggregate range of 3 percent. <br /> Alternatives <br /> Council may choose to approve or disapprove the recommendations. If approved, the City <br /> Manager is authorized to implement the changes. If not approved, the City will not meet the <br /> Policy Objectives outlined above. <br /> Financial Irn li ation <br /> The 1998 proposal for nonunion groups totals $3,554,980. The total dollar increase of the <br /> package is $109,232. This is a 3.17 percent increase_ The full amount of this increase is <br /> covered under the Contingency Account. <br /> Staff Rgcommendatilop <br /> Staff recommends approval of the plan changes outlined. <br />
