REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE** 11/22/93 <br /> ITEM No. ; L) �. <br /> Department Approval* Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br /> organizational Business <br /> Item Description: community crime and Drug Prevention Grant Agreement. <br /> The City of Roseville, on behalf of the Mayors" commission Against <br /> Drugs (MAD) , has been awarded a Community Drug and Crime Prevention <br /> Grant of $35, 000 for the period of January 1 through December 31, 1994, <br /> from the office of Drug Policy and violence Prevention in the Minnesota <br /> Department of Public Safety, to be used to enhance community alcohol <br /> and other drug prevention efforts. The focus of the grant is for a <br /> Co=unity Prevention Specialist to coordinate an aggressive program in <br /> empowering people in their homes, communities; and work sites to reduce <br /> alcohol and other drug abuse problems. <br /> In 1993 , $4 , 604 , 871 worth of funds were requested from community groups <br /> throughout the State for funding from this Community Crime and Drug <br /> Prevention Grant. At that time, $661, 000 worth of funds were available <br /> and awarded to twenty recipients, one of which was the City of <br /> Roseville, on behalf of the Roseville, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, and <br /> Kittle Canada Mayorsil Commission Against Drugs. For those programs <br /> that have shown exemplary work performance, funding is being extended <br /> through 1994 . As in the past, the four communities provide a local <br /> match. This yearl's match is $3 , 210 . It"s allocated based on <br /> population. <br /> The grant requires the city to enter into a cooperative agreement with <br /> the office of Drug Policy and violence Prevention for implementation of <br /> the grant project. A resolution authorizing the City to enter into <br /> this agreement is attached. <br /> COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br /> Motion adopting a resolution authorizing the city to enter into a <br /> cooperative agreement with the office of Drug Policy and violence <br /> Prevention for implementation of the MCAD's grant project. <br />
