At that tune, City staff advised the <br /> City Council that our existing ordinances only required a business license but <br /> that there were Do standards in'place to prohibit the proposed clinic. The Giry <br /> Attorney advised staff that the City could amend its ordinances but the City <br /> should be extremely careful about improperly regulating business competition. <br /> City staff also suggested a proposed ordinance for Council consideration which <br /> would require that veterinary services be conducted within the principal structure <br /> on the site and that permanent examination treatment taciiities must be provided. <br /> The City Council, at the request of Dr. Locketz, continued consideration of this <br /> ordinance and business license indefinitely. <br /> Recently, City staff has received a request from area veterinarians to modify tie <br /> City code to improve the health and safety standards. The veterinarians <br /> requested that the following standards be added to the City's ordinance code. <br /> 1, That when practicing veterinary medicine, the facility should provide for <br /> the following: <br /> a. Hot and cold water for cleaning and disinfecting, adequate sewage <br /> disposal facilities, properly treated floors and wars to make them <br /> impervious to infectious and other body secretions, air circulation to <br /> keep odors and airborne transmitted diseases to a minimiiin, and <br /> facilities to properly separate pets so that fights to not develop between <br /> animals. <br />
