I
Motorcoach Charter and Tour Specialists
1111 N.
'Sr,g
uuV 4ti. , ray . r ••
7.
■
y'vIiii
Mr. Michael Falk
City Planner
City of Roseville
660 civic Center Drive
Roseville. Minnesota 55113
July 13p 1993
Dear Mr, Falk:
Minnesota coaches, Inc. operates a fleet of fourteen motoxcoaches
from our terminal located at 1743 West County Road "C" in Roseville. we have
been operating from that site with temporary fueling f a c i l i t i e s since May of
1990. Since that time, our fleet has doubled in size, and we are planning for
continued growth. our ability to grow and prosper is hampered by, our current
timporary fueling facilities, which consist of a temporary 1000 gallon capacity
diesel fuel tank with a single, low-speed dispensing pump handle. This tank is
on loan to us from our fuel supplier. We are requesting a variance to the
Building code to allow the placement of a 10,000 gallon capacity above-ground
diesel fuel tank at our terminal. The reasons for this variance request are
as follows*
1. The larger capacity tank allows us to purchase fuel at bulk prices,
saving approximately 10 cents per gallon over our current prices. our current
usage is averaging over 10,000 gallons monthly, and the fuel is delivered to
us now about every other day. The-new system will allow us to receive fuel
deliveries about trice each month, which is both safer and less expensive.
2. We are able to purchase a 10,000 gallon system for a less expensive
cost per gallon of capacity as compared to a 6,000 gallon system for example.
We get the best value for our dollar with the larger size tank. All of the
auxiliary costs such as permits, concrete, excavating, fill, electrical and
crash protection are essentially the same for either size tank, If we are to
invest in this expansion of our facilityt we want to take full advantage of
our fuel purchasing power by using this size tank. We currently enjoy this
advantage at our terminal at Hastings, where we utilize this size tank.
3. The 10,000 gallon above-ground tank will he installed in a fixed
location on the property, but is removeable and resaleable should the use of this
property change in the future. This eliminates the heed to excavate and backfill
holes left from underground. tanks. It also greatly reduces or eliminates the
risks of underground }pollution caused by leaks.
4. Most importantly, this variance will allow us to enhance our
competetive position in our marketplace, in so doing, we can continue to
grow our business and the number of jobs in Rdseville*
sincerely you , ZI
-n
ja
VIM
Patrick 0.
