REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
DATE: 4/12/93
ITEM NO: F . JO
Department Approval. Manager Reviewed. Agenda ection'r
Reports and Recommendations
Item Description. Authorization to purchase
Large Capacity Ice Nesurfacer
BACKGROUND
The ice surface of the John Rose Minnesota OVAL will be approximately
109,000 square feet. This will be the largest ice area in the North
ern hemisphere. There will be a need to quickly convert the OVAL from
one type of usage to another. For these reasons, there will be ."a need
for a, large capac it ' ice resurfaoer. During the past six months staff
has researched ice resurfacers. The conclusion is that the large capac-
ity res ur f a cer of the type used in Sundsvall, Sweden (a facility similar
to the OVAL) will give the fastest resurface because of the large capac-
ity water tanks. The resurFfaaer will also be used as -a snow plow and in
the non -ice season as a squeegee and water vacuum.
Staff deve loped spec i f i cat ions reviewed and approved by the City attar#
ne ' s office and advertised for bids. Bids were received from:
Beaker Arena Products, Inc....._.... 72,387
Frank J.
