Department Approval <br />I /. <br />REQUEST FOR-CO IL ACTION DATE: 3/22/93 <br />ITEM O ■ <br />►nager Reviewed: Agenda section.. <br />Ordinances and Resolutions <br />Item Description* Resolution receiving feasibility report and authorizing <br />preparation of plans and specifications for 1993 water <br />system capital improvements to booster station, W�93 ! 1 <br />Background: In 1992, the City Council authorized the preparation of a <br />feasibility study to consider necessary water booster station <br />improvements* The project involves the addition of a variable frequency <br />drive for one of the booster pumps - and replacement of the pump motor. <br />In addition, staff has long recommended installation of bypass piping <br />around the booster star I*L can to provide a means of emergency bypass, so <br />pumps can be r ypairec!. pile still opera � ~, ng. The station currently does <br />not have that capab i l v . <br />i <br />Accordingly, a feasibility report has been completed and has been <br />presented for consideration. The engineer for the project is TDA* <br />They have recommended the following improvements along with cost <br />estimates: <br />1. A variable frequency drive for pump #4 with new <br />pump motor and rebuilding of current pump 35FOOO <br />2. station bypass piping 321p000 <br />3. Installation of new overhead door with electronic gate 7,000 <br />4. Miscellaneous items including nemf pump seal and minor <br />booster station building repairs 10,000 <br />TOTAL PRWECT BUDGET $840000 <br />Policy objectivese several years ago staff presented a 5 year Capital <br />.Improvement Program for major modifications and repairs to the city's <br />water booster PPing facility. The station was installed in the late <br />1960's and approximately 25 years have passed with *only routine <br />maintenance pr�ovidede Pumps and motors have in some cases reached the <br />end of their useful life and need major repairs or replacements. Money <br />has been budgeted each year for th6se repairs. <br />All <br />
