I have
lived in Roseville for the past three years and in the neighboring communities
of Falcon Heights and Lauderdale for an additional' tern gears.
I am presently working as a Research Scientist at Personnel Decisions Research
I nsti t utea , Inc, a firm committed to developing Human Resource systems and
products which are reliable, valid, fair, legally defensi.bla and sensitive to
a multicultural workforce. 1 am well aware of labor law as it applies to
employee selection and have been proactive in developing techniques to. ensure
f a r- and equitable employment practices. Recently, my col legues and I were
contracted by the Minneapolis Fire Department' {MFD) to develop an €oral, inter-
view for use in hiring entry level Firefighters. The MFD selection process was
subject to a court - imposed Affirmative Action Flan, a result of 1 79 Carter art
Gal 1 agher , Igo. 4 71) ci v 39.. I am enclosing a section of the report w h i c
discusses our innovative strategy which helped ensure a "content -val i d and
fair" i ntervi. a *w. The MFD is currently using our developed Interview and train-
ing materials.
Having lived and taught in the Philippines for almost seven gears, I am quite
sensitive to cross - cultural issues as they relate to empl Dyment and community
life. Likewise, my current volunteer work at Corpus Christi involves coordi-
nating our church's Faini 1 y and Cul tural Ex change (FACE I Program with our
sister parish in New Mexico..
I believe, the role of the committee should cunt inue to be a pr Qact i v one,
encouraging public education, fostering a positive human resource climate,
and working closely with community groups, state agencies, and m u I t i eul t u r a
groups to ensure issues related to the diverse warkf orce are addressed and
huim an rights violations are avoided. The medi at i onal process is tr i ti c al as
well and I am quite interested in this role with regard: to my tiwn participa-
tion with the Committee's work.
J.
