REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE: 2/893 <br />ITEM NO <br />Departmen Ap rovale Manager reviewed: Agenda section: <br />Reports and Recommendations <br />Item iDescription: resolution approving plans and specifications and <br />ordering advertisement for bids, John Rose Minnesota <br />Oval,, city Project M -9 �2 3 <br />Background: At recent work sessions, staff has talked to the council <br />about the status of the John Rose oval prof ect * Recently, the council <br />took action to hire the firm of Bonestroo, Roseney and Anderlik to <br />complete the design for the ice system for the skating facility. The <br />ice system includes the following components: <br />1. Fi n grading o f the site and installation of a sand layer <br />2 Installation of an underground drainage system and perimeter <br />stoma sewer <br />3. Installation of refrigeration piping <br />4. Installation of compressor system and condenser <br />5. Construction of support building for compressor equipment and <br />ice resurfacer storage <br />The last item, the ice resurfaces /compressor equipment building will not <br />be hid as part of the ice systems Since the work is of a different <br />nature, it is hest bid separately from the ice making system which is <br />more of a mechan i ca 1- pro f ect <br />The council will recall discussing the status of this project and the <br />anticipated technology and design decisions at several meetings over the <br />past two months. At this time, the-project is intended to include <br />installation of a system -using plastic pipe and an ammonia brine indirect <br />refrigeration system e , The bidding process will involve distribution of a <br />performance type specification whereby the contractors will have fairly <br />t 'ble to be bid as lon as <br />wide latitude in types of systems that are el � <br />they meet minimum performance criteria* <br />Bonestroo, Rosene, and Anderlik will be responsible for evaluating all <br />of the bids subm itted o Based upon conversations' with companies both <br />foreign and domestic, it appears that at this time that we may have at <br />least six companies submitting bids. These include two Swedish <br />companies , two Finnish companies, and two domestic firms. Also, other <br />domestic companies may be bidding on the project who have not yet <br />contacted use <br />
