Regular City Council Minutes — 11/24/03 <br />DRAFF Minutes - Page 34 <br />wading pool <br />Kysylyczyn moved, Schroeder seconded, suspending <br />operation of the Rosebrook wading pool at a projected <br />savings of $25,000. <br />Councilmember Kough spoke in opposition to the motion. <br />Councilmember Schroeder spoke in favor of the motion; <br />questioning why the drain had been repaired when it was <br />on the City Manager's list of potential reductions. <br />Finance Director Miler noted that the City Manager's <br />recommendation had been prepared in July; and <br />authorization by the City Council in October to repair the <br />pool. Mr. Miller noted that the authorization had been <br />given and staff sought bids on the work, but funds had not <br />been disbursed at this time. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the amount of savings to be <br />realized by suspending operations at the pool. <br />Parks and Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke estimated <br />that the annual cost was approximately $6,000 for staff <br />overtime and chemicals. <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn amended his motion to read a savings <br />of $6,000 to suspend operation of the wading pool. <br />Further discussion ensued regarding trained staff or <br />volunteers for manning the pool; certification <br />requirements; use of pooh by area children and; cost and <br />ramifications of suspending operations at the pool and <br />long -terns affects. <br />Councilmember Schroeder spoke in support of the motion. <br />Councilmember Kough reiterated his opposition to the <br />motion. <br />Councilmember Maschka requested staff's <br />
