Val: Managor Approval: Agenda Section: '014 0 h e Aff A k C013SOnt item Description: Approval for LLEBG 2003 (Bureau of Justioe Assistance Grant Mona AvallaWe to Im onforcment for the purpose of rtcing crime and tmpmving public sf (Le., devekqmwt of crime imp barns) The United States Bureau of Justice Assistance males available a specified amount of money to local law enforcement agencies for the purpose of reducing crime and improving public safety. The Roseville Police Department has applied for and received an allocation of $1 0,322 through the LLEBG 2003 program. This grant money would allow the department to pay police staff overtime incurred in problem oriented policing and crime impact teams- -teams that were formed with previous LLEBG funds. The police department has implemented fear crime impact teams: auto theft/theft from auto, motel surveillance, traffic detail and alcohoVtobacco compliance. The teams consist of off -duty officers who target specific crime problems and/or specific crime areas. Officers determine crime target areas hawed on prior street experience. The teams have been extremely well received by the Roseville officers —with a participation rate of close to 50% of the staff. FINAN IAL BLIGATION The LLEB i supplements the overtime budget for the police department. The police department is required to provide matching funds equal to one -ninth of the federal appropriation. For LLEBG 200 3, this amount would be $1,147. The city will receive the grant money in a lump sum deposit that will be placed in an interest bearing account. The mount is drawn down as needed until the grant funds are depleted. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Authorize acceptance of the grant under the terms and conditions described herein. uN IL ACTION REQUESTED Authorize the City Manager to accept the grant funds of $101322.
