REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: Sep 1 51 � <br />It Om 140-: X1. 13. <br />Val: Managor Approval: Agenda Section: <br />'014 0 h e Aff A k C013SOnt <br />item Description: Approval for LLEBG 2003 (Bureau of Justioe Assistance Grant Mona <br />AvallaWe to Im onforcment <br />for the purpose of rtcing crime and tmpmving <br />public sf (Le., devekqmwt of crime imp barns) <br />The United States Bureau of Justice Assistance males available a specified amount of money <br />to local law enforcement agencies for the purpose of reducing crime and improving public <br />safety. The Roseville Police Department has applied for and received an allocation of $1 0,322 <br />through the LLEBG 2003 program. This grant money would allow the department to pay police <br />staff overtime incurred in problem oriented policing and crime impact teams- -teams that were <br />formed with previous LLEBG funds. <br />The police department has implemented fear crime impact teams: auto theft/theft from auto, <br />motel surveillance, traffic detail and alcohoVtobacco compliance. The teams consist of off -duty <br />officers who target specific crime problems and/or specific crime areas. Officers determine <br />crime target areas hawed on prior street experience. The teams have been extremely well <br />received by the Roseville officers —with a participation rate of close to 50% of the staff. <br />FINAN IAL BLIGATION <br />The LLEB i supplements the overtime budget for the police department. The police department <br />is required to provide matching funds equal to one -ninth of the federal appropriation. For <br />LLEBG 200 3, this amount would be $1,147. The city will receive the grant money in a lump <br />sum deposit that will be placed in an interest bearing account. The mount is drawn down as <br />needed until the grant funds are depleted. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Authorize acceptance of the grant under the terms and conditions described herein. <br />uN IL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Authorize the City Manager to accept the grant funds of $101322. <br />
