Regular City Council Minutes — 07/21/03 <br />DR A VIr Minutes - Page 27 <br />Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) benefits from <br />ninety (90) days to three hundred sixty -five (365) days. <br />City Attorney Anderson outlined language to clarify the <br />Council's indent to propose directing staff to draft a <br />resolution that would provide the City to make <br />contributions for employees unable to work due a to <br />serious medical condition as defined under the FMLA. <br />The authors of the motion and Councilmembers <br />concurred. <br />Discussion items included FMLA guidelines and standards <br />to determine the definition of catastrophic illness; <br />maximum exposure that could be realized by the City; <br />availability and possible need of an aggregate stop toss <br />policy; City Manager's authority to determine whether a <br />position is an essential core position; and avoidance of <br />discrimination. <br />Joan Borman, 2735 Fernwood Street( ?) <br />Ms. Gorman cautioned Councilmembers, in their <br />consideration of this proposal, to proceed with due <br />diligence given the potential abuse of this privilege. <br />Kysylyczyn withdrew his initial motion and moved, with <br />Kough seconding directing staff and City Attorney <br />Anderson, at his earliest convenience, to research and <br />provide informarion on language for a proposed resolution <br />that could extend benefits to employees that would relate <br />to payment of premiums for group health covering during <br />a period of time they are still classified as employees; no <br />longer paid; and under some kind of medical condition <br />that prevents them from working; and providing a rough <br />estimate of the City's potential cost exposure,. <br />Ordinances & <br />Resolutions <br />First Reading of an <br />Ordinance <br />Changing Land Use <br />
