Protection Systems: All bulk storage facilities for liquefied petroleum gas containing 5 two thousand (2.,000) gallons water capacity or more shall be stored in tanks protected 6 from fire by one of the following protection systems: 7 1. preaction water Spray System: A preaction water spray system designed in S accordance with National Fire Protection Association Standard No. 15 which is 9 hereby adopted by reference. 10 . Fire proof Insulation: Tanks coated with a water based, thermally activated} I I subliming, intumescent fireproofing insulation capable of passing a miniFnum fire 12 resistance test of one hour when tested on steel pressure vessels using standard 13 industry tests} the surface coating shall be impermeable and hard - shelled to resist 14 weathering. 15 3. Mounded Above Grade: Upon the submission of detailed plans and specifications 16 and upon the written approval of the Fire Chief and the lire Marshal, tanks may be 17 mounded above grade. ( Ord. 867,-9-22-80) 18 4. Shutoff Valve: Tanks shall be equipped with a valve at the outlet of the tank. The 19 valve shall be designed to automatically shut off the flow of fuel in the event of the 20 following conditions: 1 a. Excess flow of fuel. 2 b. Automatic detection of fire conditions. 23 The valve shall also be capable of manual operation. The valve shall be 24 interconnected with all related electrical equipment. (Ord. 1060, 5- 22 -89) 25 C. permit required: 26 1. Notwithstanding the limits for aboveground storage tanks established in 27 subsections A and B above, such storage tanks in other non - residentially zoned areas 8 may be allowed by issuance of a permit approved by the City Council. The permit is 9 subject to review and recommendations of the lire Marshal and to conditions 30 imposed by the City Council. Annually, the Council shall review the site and tank 31 perrut for compliance with the original perrnzt. The Council may tenrninate the permit 32 for noncompliance or require additional improvements consistent with this 33 subsection. 34. Storage tanks permitted by this subsection shall be designed to meet all applicable 35 State and Federal regulations and setback requirements, shall be located in rear yards 15
