The total projected capital
costs are approximately $275,000. The acceptance of the project was on the basis
that the city would fully maintain the area after its completion. Staff projected that the
increased maintenance costs as a result of the improvements would be
approximately $14,000 per year and would be requested in the 2004 budget plan.
The acceptance of the project was done prior to the state and local economic
conditions.
Staff and the Central Park Foundation feel it is hest that any projects done at this
time do not cause additional maintenance but rather enhance the current situation.
This means that some infrastructure projects will still he installed this year but
projects like the Japanese Garden and other additional planting projects that would
require additional maintenance will remain on hold until the economic /budget
situation is more certain.
Monte Johnson, President of the central Park Foundation, will be present at the City
Council on May 5, 2003 to update the Council.
0 Page '1
CADCCUMmts and Settili \Margr+etDlL a1 Settingffm"Por•arY Iritiemet 1~i1eS \OLK4 CM MemoC -P Arb.dev dc]ay :503.doc
