Primary elections Page 2 of 3 <br />Additional expense to the city to conduct two elections. <br />Limits voter choice by eliminating candidates in a first round of elections <br />• Ilt extends the period of the election process, resulting in ` "voter fatigue' and disinterest <br />• Candidates may be discouraged by the costs involved with a lengthier election campaign <br />Candidates may he discouraged from filing or running by greater administrative processes involved in two <br />elections. <br />There is a lour voter torn -out for primaries, resulting in important decisions being made by only a tew <br />people. <br />Because there is low voter turnout, one candidate can dominate the election by garnering support from a <br />relatively small group of people <br />Eliminating primaries may favor incumbents, who have name recognition in a crowded field of candidates. <br />I hope this information is helpful. it is intended as general information on your topic, not legal advice, and shout <br />not be used as a substitute for competent legal guidance.
