<br />Chapter 1,06 of the City, Code pertaining to the Volunteer F* Department.
<br />The underlying principle of this new ordinance is to make the appointment of Fire Chiefs
<br />comparable to the, appointment, of department heads within the City, that is,, to be accomplished
<br />by the City Manager in the Manager's discretion, Likewise, appointment of firefighters will be

<br />accomplished M the same manner as other City employees, with th City Mana having the

<br />ultimate decision on biring.
<br />The duties and terms and conditions ofemployment will also be established by, the City
<br />Manager, by prepanng job descriptions for the varies positions, j , ust as, the Manager prepares joil.

<br />The ordionance also removes the entitlement,. to a hearing before the City Council on

<br />,fiscipline and leaves disciplinary
<br />oIganized employees., The one ex,cept,ion would be for employees who are covered by the
<br />Veterans Preference Law and through, that statute are entitled to a "Just cause"' hearing.

<br />Finally,, when we met with the Chiefs, we discussed whether 'it was, necess, retain
