Manager Approval: Agenda Section: <br />Consent Agenda <br />Ar <br />item Description., Roseville Police Department Recipient of Two Grants, <br />BACKGROUNDir <br />COPS Universal Hiring Program grant for an estimated cost of $225,000.0% <br />At the April 28, 1997 Council Meeting the Chieflwas authorized to, prepare a, COPS Universal Hirin'�N. <br />Grant as part of the Department restructuring. The grant, was to help pay for new officers. <br />We have received conf=ation from the Department of'Justice that we have been awarded $225,000.00, <br />over the next three years, designated to, hire three additional full-time officers. This will bfing th-Tj <br />Department authorized strength to 47. The grant award start date is October 1,, 1997. <br />The Department will be starting a hifing piroicess soon. <br />Minnesota Auto Theft Prevention Program Grant <br />At the May 5, 1997 Council Meeting the Chief of Police was authorized to, apply for, a $21,0651.00 <br />Vehicle Theft Reduction Grant from, the Mm'nesota Vehicle Theft Prevention Program which was <br />'I <br />created by the 1996 Minnesota Legislature. <br />We have been nofified that we were successful, and have been awarded the full amount req,u,ested,. The <br />money will pay for analysis and overtime costs for investigations of motor vehicle thefts. This is an <br />increasing crime problem in, the Metro Area.
