3
September 13, 1991
d
!" TO Steve Sarkozy, City Manager
+_ FROM: Jim Zelinsky, Police Chief
SUBJECT: PARKING ORDINANCE PROPOSAL
L
The Police Department Staff and Code Enforcement Staff proposes an
ordinance be drafted to restrict parking on the street for periods
longer than 48 hours. Both departments have received citizen
complaints on various vehicles being "stored" on the street and our
only authority is to plead with those residents to think of their
neighbors, etc. Sometimes the mediation works, and others does not
because their isn't off - street parking sufficient to satisfy their
needs.
Several years ago, there was an ordinance on the books prohibiting
any street parking between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This
was repealed on the recommendation of the Public Works Director and
Police Chief because there were too many hardship cases --
resulting in inequitable enforcement.
Request this issue be briefly discussed at the upcoming work
session with the Council so we can formally present the ordinance
at a regular meeting.
Call if there are any questions or comments.
Thanks.
