Eilemen"tary Schools
In Phase 1 the facility needs at the Roseville Area Elementary
Schools are basic. There is a need across the district for more
classroom space. The, Kindergarten and wage 4 projections shover
a gradual rise in population over the next 5 years, which wW
oaf through the elementary level over the next 10 ye
There, is a need for more classroom space to reduce class sizes,
and to absorb variations in enrollment for each grade. 7here i's
also a great" need for non - classroom space, from gyms to offices.
Existing Condition
With the exception of Little Canada, all of the elementary
schools have not had significant remodeling or additions for over
1, ' years. Facilities have had to make do as new demands have
arisen in education such as special education inclusion, increased
role of specialists, paraprofessionals, etc. The standards section
for the elementary schools in Part Two of tWs book 11'sts the
spaces included in, our, plans for Phase I. In addition to the space
needs, mechanical and electrical updates, roofing and improve-
ments for energy efficiency all need to be addressed, and have
been included in the Phase I General Remodeling Costs for each
school.
The above needs combined suggest a plan to remodel and add to
every, building, allowing equitable 'improvements across the
w
district. Different number of classroom additions at each school
►111 also allow the elementary schools to be brought closer
together in terns of acapacity. Bfimhall will keep its current
capacity, wile a smaller schools such as Edgerton on is planned to
be brought up' in size.1 Thus, the plan shrews 3 rounds class-
rooms, per grade level) at Little Canada, central lark, E.D.
Williams and Edgerton, ' rounds at Err all, 1, rounds (K-8)
at Farkview, and 2 1/2 rounds at Falcon Heights. Because of site
m
size, we do not recommend increasing Falcon Heights to the
capacity of the others. The total number of classrooms is based
do
on the class sizes and enrollment Projections shown in the
Appendix., Par ie Center School,, lotted in an old Junior
High building, does' not require additions, but will expand into
space ntly used by other functions,
