REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE: 2/25/91 <br />ITEM ,NO.: <br />Department Ap val: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />Reports and Recommendations <br />Item esc iption: 1991 sewer and water capital improvements <br />Background: At the February 19, 1991, work session, the council <br />discussed in detail feasibility studies for proposed improvements to the <br />sanitary sewer and water systems. Staff presented a list of recommended <br />improvements for 1991. These were explained in detail, and the council <br />had a number of questions regarding individual items. Recommended 1991 <br />projects are summarized as follows: <br />Item Description <br />A. SANITARY SEWER CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS <br />1. Replace Brenner lift station <br />2. Replace Lounge lift station <br />TOTAL <br />B. WATER SYSTEM CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS <br />1. Radio alarm system for booster station <br />2. <br />Emergency generator for <br />booster <br />station <br />3. <br />Replace booster pumping <br />station <br />control panel <br />4. Variable frequency control for pump 5 or 6 <br />TOTAL <br />Estimated Cost <br />$65,000 <br />75,000 <br />$140,000 <br />$60,000 <br />110,000 <br />55,000 <br />55,000 <br />$280,000 <br />Generally, the council appeared supportive of the proposed capital <br />improvement projects for the sanitary sewer and water utilities. <br />Council did ask that the issue of water pressures be discussed with the <br />consultant who did the original water system design, SEH. We have <br />discussed the issue of water pressure and how it would relate to the <br />variable speed drive installation on the pumps with SEH. <br />In 1989, SEH did an investigation for the city looking at ways to <br />reduce pressure problems in the Lovell /Western area. One of the <br />recommended solutions was the installation of a variable speed drive on <br />
