ACTION REQUESTED
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS.
5 August 1,987
Gretchhen Marie Ternes,
Southwest, Coirner of Terminal
Road and Fulhan Road (see
sketch)
Approval of Variance to Sign
Location
A,bouilt a year ag,oli a, new office and production building was built at
this sitdi to acco, mmodate Ms. Ternies' graphics equipment products
company'. The structure was, built in total, conforimance to the industrial
zioninig r,eq,ui i rements which include a 40 foot setback of the structure
and a 40 foot, setback for parking if the parking Ls between the
st,ructure and the frontage road.
3. The City, has traditionally, considered simflar proposals, where the size of
the sign (17.5 square feet,), is substantially less than allowed and placed
a few, feet above the ground rather than the allowed 25, foot pylon sign
height. Thus, in this case, the sign area is 17.5 percent of the
allowable area, and the distance proposed "is 25 percent of the required
40
feet.
4. The
proposal, 'is for a, reduction In setback to the
frontage road
reducing
the
distance from 40 feet to A feet, with the condition that
the sign
be
constructed as submitted with the maximum
height of .,3
feet 4
inches., Attached is a, statement from Ms. Ternes
outlining her
proposal
and
her reasons, for this submission,
5. The sign might actually, look a little, better if the masonry wall were
slightly longer. U_ p to a, 50 percent increase in length might result in
better proportions rather, than confining the length to accommodate the
lettering only.
