REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval <br />Date: 9/26/11 <br />Item No.: 7 . i <br />City Mamger Approval <br />Item Description: Adopt a Resolution to Accept the Work Completed, Authorize Final <br />Payment of $,4,405.68 and commence the One-Year Warranty Period on <br />the Rosewood Neighborhood Drainage Improvements Project (Phase 2) <br />11 BACKGROUND <br />2 On June 2 81 20....10 the City Council awarded the Rosewood Neighborhood Drainage <br />3 Improvements Project (Phase 2) to Urban Companies, of St. Paul, Minnesota. This project <br />4, consisted of the completion of the construction of 19 rain gardens. The construction of these <br />5 rain gardens began with a different contractor, TMS Construction, who was unresponsive, and <br />6 the contract was then terminated by the City on February 12, 20 10. Work completed under the <br />"7 original contract totaled $,44,715.70. Urban Companies successfully completed the remaining <br />8 work to be done on the project in August 2011. <br />9 POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />110 City policy requires that the following items be completed to finalize a construction contract: <br />11 0 Certification from the City Engineer verifying that all of the work has been completed in <br />12 accordance with plans and specifications. <br />13 9 A resolution by the City Council accepting the contract and beginning the one-year warranty. <br />14, FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />15 The following table summarizes the total project costs compared to the original budgeted amount <br />116 based on the engineer's estimate: <br />Original budget based on engineer's estimate <br />$ 1251970.50 <br />Work completed during Phase I by TMS Construction <br />$ 441715.70 <br />Work completed during Phase 2 by Urban Companies <br />$ 551813.50 <br />Total construction costs <br />1 $ 1001529.20 <br />1 ��7 We received favorable bids for this work, and the final construction costs were significantly <br />11 111",,'11 lower than estimated. The City also received $, 17,405.73 cost-share from the Ramsey <br />119 Conservation District for this project. The remaining portion of the contract was funded by <br />20 Storm water infrastructure funds. <br />21 STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />22 The work that was completed was in accordance with project plans and specifications. Staff <br />23 recommends the City Council approve a resolution accepting the work completed as the <br />24, Rosewood Neighborhood Drainage Improvements Project (Phase 2) and authorize final payment <br />Page I of 2 <br />
