k" <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Item Description: Public Tree Inventory Presentation <br />Date: 9/26/11 <br />Item No.: 10 . B <br />City Manager Approval <br />The City has been in the process of updating the public tree inventory over the past several years utilizing <br />existing technology and volunteers. The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) grant receive in January, 2010 allowed <br />the City to purchase a tree software program specifically to aid in compiling the tree inventory and <br />documentation. The grant also allowed for a limited amount of resources to facilitate the inventory. <br />"7 The purpose of this presentation is to provide a general idea to you on information provided by the tree <br />8 inventory and gather your feedback. Attached are the following documents that will eventually be included <br />9 in a full Public Tree Master Plan, they are a: <br />110 0 Public Tree and Master Plan data map for Constellation M in the SE Sector as an example <br />11 0 Pie chart of the distribution of all trees on city boulevards <br />12 9 Pie chart of the distribution of all trees in city parks <br />13 9 Pie chart of the distribution of trees at city facilities, e.g. city hall/skating center, fire <br />14, stations <br />15 9 Bar chart of the condition of all trees <br />116 0 Bar chart of the condition of all ash trees <br />1 7 9 Bar chart of the diameter inch of all ash trees <br />26 <br />27 <br />It is anticipated that the Parks and Recreation Commission will be spending additional time over the winter <br />reviewing and providing advice on the Public Tree Master Plan and the Public Tree Inventory. <br />Staff will plan to review the inventory information with you at your meeting on September 26, 2011. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />This proposal is consistent with the City's Urban Forest Resource Management Goal and leveraging funds <br />through grants to further City efforts. <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATION <br />2,, None at this time <br />29 STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />3o Discussion <br />3 1 COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />32 Discussion <br />Page I of I <br />
