Mary Burjold Maxfield Research and John Hamilton of Urban Works Presentation on <br />28 <br />Baby Boomer’s Aging <br />29 <br />Ms. Kelsey introduced tonight’s presenters to provide various perspectives and national, state <br />30 <br />and local trends on our aging population. <br />31 <br />32 <br />Ms. Burjold <br />provided her presentation as a bench handout entitled, “Boomers and Housing <br />33 <br />attached hereto and made a part <br />Choices, dated April 2011, prepared by Maxfield Research; <br />34 <br />hereof. <br />The presentation provided timely information about baby boomers and their preferred <br />35 <br />housing options; various industry-related professional realizations and impacts of baby <br />36 <br />boomers with every housing component as they’ve gone through their life cycle, and those <br />37 <br />impacts with the recession and recent downturn in the housing market. Ms. Burjold noted that <br />38 <br />the industry anticipated no dramatic change in the future, with national groups basing their <br />39 <br />research on trends for 55+ housing markets in various areas; and future housing products to <br />40 <br />address the preferences of baby boomers related to their community and neighborhoods. Ms. <br />41 <br />Burjold noted the wide age span of this baby boomer generation and recent research dividing <br />42 <br />that group and their age span over eighteen (18) years, representing a full generation. <br />43 <br />44 <br />Mr. Hamilton <br />provided the identifiers of each of the generations: Interbellum Generation; The <br />45 <br />Greatest Generation; The Silent Generation; The War Baby Generation; the Baby Boom <br />46 <br />Generation; Generation Jones; Generation X; and The Millenials (Gen Y). Mr. Hamilton <br />47 <br />noted that Roseville was built during those baby boomer years. Mr. Hamilton referenced a <br />48 <br />recent TIME magazine article on communities; home owners; and the dynamics. <br />49 <br />50 <br />Ms. Burjold reviewed various foci changes in serving the baby boomers as they aged and <br />51 <br />redesigned their housing choices accordingly; blurred activity periods of baby boomers, and <br />52 <br />how their goals are defined; their financial situations and retirement savings varying between <br />53 <br />the various age groups in the baby boomer generation and their skepticism on the availability <br />54 <br />of Social Security with the younger age group. <br />55 <br /> <br />
