50 August 22 Council meeting to have preliminary information of needs and priorities. The <br /> 51 Work Group is also looking to schedule a field trip in the near future to visit Roseville <br /> 52 parks and look into the invasive species present. <br /> 53 o Jason Etten talked about the level of community input on the preservation and <br /> 54 improvements proposal. <br /> 55 o 45 people attended the July 28 Community Meeting to review, discuss and <br /> 56 comment on the current proposal. Hundreds of people have taken part in the <br /> 57 Discover Your Parks Constellation Tour and have had an opportunity to talk <br /> 58 first hand with staff, commissioners and community volunteers on the Master <br /> 59 Plan and the proposal to preserve and improve the parks and recreation <br /> 60 system. <br /> 61 o Erin Azer recommended holding planning meeting specifically for the Southwest Sector <br /> 62 sighting the need for residents to voice their ideas and have a real discussion from <br /> 63 residents from across the sector as to the best way of addressing the need for park <br /> 64 amenities in the area. <br /> 65 o Lee Diedrick agreed with Erin and added that she felt the Southwest Sector needed more <br /> 66 directed time to discuss options for this area. <br /> 67 o Lonnie Brokke added that there will definitely be community meetings for all projects <br /> 68 and acquisitions once there is a more concrete direction. <br /> 69 o Azer also added that sometimes you need to be creative and suggested the SW residents <br /> 70 be creative as well as community planners and community volunteers. Azer also <br /> 71 suggested that the plan look at starting with trail additions in SW Roseville in an effort to <br /> 72 begin to balance some of the discrepancies in park amenities. <br /> 73 o Doneen asked that the park-school concept be considered in the first phase rather than <br /> 74 waiting until step 2. He also recommended spending time with the school district on <br /> 75 discussing opportunities at Fairview and Parkview. <br /> 76 o Mary Holt suggested looking into partnering with the schools on a program like "pennies <br /> 77 for parks"that might help financially support the school-park concept at Fairview and <br /> 78 Parkview. <br /> 79 o Diedrick reminded everyone that the community sees the replacement of the boardwalk at <br /> 80 HANC as a priority. <br /> 81 o Gale Pederson commented on the fact that none of the y rou s at the Jul 28th meeting had <br /> g p g <br /> 82 any suggestions for items that should not be included on the proposal or that any of the <br /> 83 projects should be considered at a lower priority. <br /> 84 o Doneen cautioned that we need to think about how we maintain new additions to the <br /> 85 parks and recreation system and asked that all involved make sure there is a long-term <br /> 86 vision on how we will maintain the parks and recreation system. That vision for future <br /> 87 maintenance needs to be shared with and discussed with the Council. <br /> 88 o Etten asked that the phase one proposal include concept planning for a community center. <br /> 89 o Pederson suggested beginning the community center planning with a review of previous <br /> 90 community center planning processes and recommendations. <br /> 91 <br /> 92 Commission Recommendation: <br /> 93 Motion by Pederson: Based on extensive community input and community planning the <br /> 94 Parks & Recreation Commission recommends the City Council approve the framework for <br /> 95 phase one of the Master Plan implementation including, the method, approach and dollar <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br />
