k'14L& <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 7/18/201 <br />Item No.: 5. a I <br />Item Description.- 2011 Night to Unite Proclamation <br />BACKGROUND <br />2 Night to Unite, sponsored by the MINNESOTA CRIME PREVENTION ASSOCIATION, is a <br />3 neighborhood crime prevention event that occurs annually on the first Tuesday in August and is <br />4 celebrated in hundreds of cities throughout Minnesota. A similar campaign, National Night Out, <br />5 takes place on the same evening in thousands of cities, towns and villages throughout the <br />6 Country. In addition to increasing awareness of crime prevention programs, Night to Unite <br />"7 strengthens neighborhood spirit and community-police partnerships, while sending a message to <br />criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime. <br />9 BUDGET IMPLICATIONS <br />0 Proclaiming August 2, 2011 as Night to Unite in Roseville will have no financial impact on the <br />city. <br />12 STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />13 It is recommended the Council authorize the Mayor and City Manager to sign the Proclamation <br />14 designating August 2, 2011 as Night to Unite in Roseville. <br />REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION <br />Motion authorizing the Mayor and City Manager to sign the 2011 Night to Unite Proclamation. <br />1l q - -1i � 1 MWffW4 RM <br />Attachment A: 20111 Ni� q 0 RUIMTOW <br />Page I of I <br />
