k" REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Date: 8/22/2011 Item No.: 7.c City Manager Approval Item Description: Request for Approval of General Purchases or Sale of Surplus Items Exceeding $,5,000 BACKGROUND City Code section 103.05 establishes the requirement that all general purchases and/or contracts in excess of $,5,000 be approved by the Council. In addition, State Statutes require that the Council authorize the sale of surplus vehicles and equipment. General Purchases or Contracts City Staff have submitted the following items for Council review and approval: Department Public Works Vendor LPD Electric Description Street light removal on Prior Perimeter Amount $,71365.00 Public Works Xcel Energy Street light installation on Prior Perimeter 271927.00 Streets Keller Fence Fence along Roselawn Ave. 91685.00 Pathways Safe Step LLC Sidewalk repairs - various 71000.00 Streets Peoples Electric Crosswalk lights - Victoria & Central Park 121260.00 The street light system along Prior and Perimeter avenues was installed in the 1970's and currently has ground faults is not operational. This is a city-operated system and as a result, the City must pay for the replacement costs. 3 quotes were received and Xcel Energy had the lowest quote. Once installed, these lights will be operated and maintained by Xcel Energy. 14, The split-rail fence along Roselawn Avenue will be 1,300 feet in length and will run from Dale Street east 15 to the crosswalk on North McCarron's Boulevard. 116 1 7 The pedestrian lights are for the crosswalk along Victoria Street at Central Park. They will be solar 11m, >, powered. 119 20 Sale of SMIus Vehicles or Equipment 2 1 City Staff have identified surplus vehicles and equipment that have been replaced and/or are no longer 22 needed to deliver City programs and services.
