Depart I A <br />ment Approval <br />l <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />FW; a t e.- 8/18/2008 <br />Ftem No..- 7.e <br />City Manager Approval <br />Item Description.- <br />Accept Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Grant for the Commission and Installation of Public Art at <br />the Frank Rog Amphitheatre in Central Park <br />2 The Frank Rog Amphitheatre in Central Park is a key access point to our arts active community. It is a <br />3 place where community gathers; where neighbors meet, where generations mingle, where cultures <br />4 meld. The Amphitheatre is a hub for our arts rich community — a place to enjoy, experience and <br />5 perform as musicians and actors, as audience members and as arts enthusiasts. <br />6 Roseville Parks and Recreation has been awarded an $,8000 Creative Intersections Grant from the <br />"7 Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. The grant is to commission and install a signature piece of public <br />8 art at the Frank Rog Amphitheatre. This grant will provide for a unique piece of art, with strong <br />9 community connections that compliment the Amphitheatre renovation and dedication. This project will <br />I ('_) engage local artists and arts enthusiasts and celebrate Roseville's engagement with the arts. <br />"I'll This addition to Central Park,, made possible by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Creative <br />12 Intersections Grant,, will result in public art that reflects our community and recognizes the legacy of a <br />13 community committed to the arts. <br />14 POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />I The attached proposal is consistent with the policy of leveraging public and private resources to obtain <br />16 funding to offset the cost of providing services and amenities for Roseville residents. It is also <br />I ��7 consistent with department efforts to partner with other agencies. <br />I FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />19 The City must provide matching support in in-kind services and funding. Staff has identified available <br />20 support for the City's matching component. <br />2 1 STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />22 Based on the Imagine Roseville 2025 Community Visioning Process that recognized the importance of <br />23 nurturing arts opportunities and initiatives and the Parks and Recreation System Plan that supports a <br />24 variety of recreation experiences, staff recommends that the City accept a grant from the Metropolitan <br />Z, Regional Arts Council for $,8000 to commission and install public art at the Frank Rog Amphitheatre. <br />Page I of 2 <br />
