Ri!)6PAEEdE Request for Council Action Date: 02-11 -08 Item Number: 7.h Backwound: The Roseville Fire Department does not own or operate a fire training center. Instead, we lease the St. Paul Fire Department training center, which is a cost effective way to provide firefighter training. The St. Paul training center serves most of our needs. However, the Minneapolis Fire Department has a state-of-the-art firefighter burn building that utilizes propane gas to simulate fires. While our firefighters would benefit from the training provided at this modern facility, it would be cost prohibitive for the City of Roseville to construct it$ s own fire training center. Thus, we are seeking to renew a lease agreement, in which, the Roseville Fire Department leases time at the Minneapolis Fire Training Center. The Roseville Fire Department will continue to utilize the St. Paul Fire Department training center for most of our training center needs. However, both facilities are beneficial to training our firefighters. Policy Implications: The City of Roseville would enter into a Facilities Lease Agreement with the City of Minneapolis Fire Department. Financial: Lease rates follow a set schedule based on which facilities are being used and for how long. Funding would come from the cou nci I-ap proved fire department training budget. Staff Recommen tin : Staff recommendation is for council to approve the Facilities Lease Agreement with the City of Minneapolis. Council Action Reauested: Motion to approve the Facilities Lease Agreement between the City of Roseville Fire Department and the City of Minneapolis Fire Department for the use of the North Campus Fire Training Facility.
